About us

Lucknow Walks was conceptulised way back in the year 2000 and we started our Heritage Walk for all in then, through Gol Darwaza, every evening, but this walk started in 1994 though then till 2000 this walk was exclusively meant for the tourists being handled by our parent company, Tornos, and was not open to general public. This walk received great international reviews and was then recommended by the Conde Nast Traveller, encouraging us to go public and introduce many new and innovative walks in Lucknow after the year 2000.

Established in 1994, when tourism was an unknown domain in Lucknow and no one ever came to this city that was without a decent infrastructure, and if ever someone did talk about it, Tour Operators discouraged them to come here. With a modest start-up, today we stand strong as an institution, that many look up to and give examples of. In 2010 seeing the underdevelopment of a great destination, we opened up in Haridwar/Rishikesh, stationing a very able team there, to cater with same high standards of services that were being delivered in Lucknow, and in a span of two years the business grew 200% more than what we had expected. Haridwar too is now being sold by operators with same enthusiasm and zest as is Lucknow. Though many consider us to be masters, but we at Tornos have always considered ourselves to be learners, and this very attitude makes us what we are today.

At times we turn back and see, what have we left behind, while walking forward in our quest to achieve the unachievable ? and we notice that we left behind nothing, but rather carried along with us our enthusiasm that we had on the very first day, our commitment that we had to excel and make everybody feel proud of us, we carry along our gene of being innovative, our spirit of team work, our faith in our clients, our humble personality and an attitude of never say die. Our journey continues and there is no leaving behind but carrying along….

Today TORNOS has graduated to being an institution with diverse travel related interests such as – Experiential Tours, Tourist Handling, Travel Services, Destination Promotion, Tourism Training & Education and Tourism Consultancy. The company is a socially responsible business house promoting the cause of travel & tourism through tourism research and travel education among the masses through Tornos Foundation – a non-profit social venture of TORNOS.

Rest assured when you are with TORNOS !!! – The very name spells quality and highest satisfaction levels.

Why walk with us in Lucknow ?  Of course we pioneered walks way back in 1994, when we started our first Heritage Walk. That was a time when many people did not know, what these walking tours were. It was a tour, where tourists walked a lane with a walk leader to understand the traditions, cultures, crafts, people, cuisine and of course a bit of spectacular history hidden inside this lane and many of its by-lanes. Later on in the year 2000 we introduced Evening Culinary Walk. This is till date a thorough success and no wonder that many a world renowned chefs, including two Michelin Star Chefs (identity being deliberately not disclosed) have taken this walk to understand the Awadhi Cuisine at its best. Later in 2010 we brought about our Victorian Walk, that created a bit of controversy too for glorifying the name of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, but then the walk was so rich in contents and yet very light in nature that it is often sold-out. In 2011 we brought the Junk Market Walk and it found its place, with antique lovers, who often found some treasure in the junk and struck a deal too along with a bit of historical and cultural experience. In 2012 it was the turn of our Aminabad Shophistory Walk that is rich in history, shopping experience and some eating experience too, followed by another walk, the Flea Market Walk with its bargaining overtones and people centric nature.

Sure, this is not a reason enough for why you should take a walking tour from us. For us a ‘Walking Tour’ or a ‘Walk’, as we often refer in our tourism parlance is a slow paced, tour of well researched discoveries, being led by a Walk Leader, who is not a Walk Leader for a living, but for living with a purpose. Now what is ‘Living With Purpose’, you know, there are diverse hobbies that people have from collecting stamps to books or for that matter climbing hills or diving into deep seas. Our Walk Leaders too have this as their hobby, they have discovered, re-discovered, researched, rehearsed and are now walking to share, what they feel you should know, when visiting Lucknow.

Our Walks are quite exciting and usually planned around non-touristy places, so as to give you a real local flavour and not a garnished one, that usually are made for tourists. Our walks simply want walkers to know what they want to about a city and often many of these things are hidden history that is not even found in general books.

Another reason that is most important is that all our walks give you ample time to see, understand and then move forward. Our Walk Leaders walk slowly, at times stopping in the shade, taking you inside some shops and making this tour an experiential one.

Our walks are not mechanical in nature, and are altered to suit the mood, weather and interest of the walkers. We do not mind deploying two Walk Leaders for one walk, so as to meet the interest of walkers, when different on the same walk.

Did we give you enough reasons to walks with us ? if not, please feel free to get in touch with us and we might try once again to convince you.
